We have all heard about the threat of losing our freedoms in America. Our worst fears are now being realized. On August 25, 2010, a meeting was held by the Obama administration through Eric Holder's Justice Department with Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation, and the Feminist Majority Foundation. The main focus of the meeting was directed towards declaring the free speech activities of pro-life Americans as "violent". This meeting took place at the FBI headquarters in Portland, Oregon.
The Obama administration provided participants with an 84 page document entitled "Resource Guide: Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers". The so-called "violence" contained examples of peaceful protesting, constitutionally protected (until now) free speech, praying and offering women outside abortion clinics alternatives (choices) vs. having an abortion. Stop for a moment and think about this! This is being called "violence" in America?!
In the Obama administration document, on pages 39-41, they sepcifically list the names of pro-life organizations and web sites sponsored by peaceful nonviolent groups. Some of the organizations named in the FBI seminar materials include 40 Days for Life, the American Center for Law & Justice, Concerned Women for America, National Right to Life, Priests for Life, and Students for Life of America.
Some of the things, unbelievably, associated with "violence" include peaceful picketing, the use of anti-abortion posters, boycotts against abortion providers, publishing pro-life articles on the Internet, and handing out leaflets. Equally alarming is the encouragement for gathering databases on pro-life individuals and organizations that include names, license plates, and photos.
If all of this is shocking enough coming from the Obama administration, what should be particularly shocking is that this is coming through the Justice Department. The Justice Department!
Last year, Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, included pro-lifers in a report on "domestic terrorism". Just to show that this is much more than just talk, in February 2009, a man in Oklahoma with a pro-life sign on his vehicle was pulled over and harassed by police for allegedly making a threat against the president. Someone needs to explain how a pro-life sign translates to a threat against the president.
Today, it has become a reality, not only freedom of speech, but the entire First Amendment is under attack. The attack is coming from our own government. Whatever your position on issues, all Americans should be deeply concerned.
